Fatal crash
Footballer joins tributes to two killed in smash

By Steve Hayes 16/01 Updated: 16/01 16:59

TRIBUTES have flooded in to two men killed in a horror smash between their car and an open top bus near Stratford.

The two killed in the crash, on Featherbed Lane, in Pathlow, at around 3.20pm on Saturday (January 14) have been named as 19-year-old Mikey Abdou and 21-year-old Mike Dugmore.

Ambulance crews and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire air ambulance attended the scene.

Mr Abdou, from Hockley Heath, who was driving the Fiesta the two men were travelling in when they collided with an open top tourist bus, was confirmed dead at the scene while his passenger, Mr Dugmore, from Wilmcote, was treated for cardiac arrest but also died at the scene.

A group set up on Facebook in honour of the two young men already has more than 1,300 members.

One described their deaths as 'heartbreaking' and 'devastating', while another said: "You were both so young and had more life in you to come."

A host of tributes were paid on Twitter including one from Birmingham City footballer, Nathan Redmond, who tweeted: "Condolences and thoughts go out to the family of Mikey Abdou who lost his life in a car accident #withgodherests."

The bus driver, a man in his 50s, suffered a fractured leg and two others who were on the bus were also injured - a man in his 50s suffered a cut to his head and a woman suffered a broken ankle.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews arrived to find a car and an open top bus that had been in a serious collision.

"The man driving the car suffered multiple serious injuries in the crash and unfortunately, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"A second man, the passenger in the car, was found in traumatic cardiac arrest. The man immediately received advanced life support at the scene, but unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, nothing could be done to save him and he was also confirmed dead at the scene.

"All three other patients received emergency treatment at the scene and were transferred by land ambulances to Warwick Hospital for further assessment and treatment."
