POLICE say the death of a man found in a burning car in a remote field near Stratford is not being treated as suspicious.
Warwickshire Police revealed this afternoon (Friday) they do not believe anyone else was with the car when it was set on fire, early on Wednesday morning.
Investigators have not formally identified the man found by firefighters inside the Peugeot 306, in the field off Bearley Road, in Aston Cantlow, but say they believe they know who it is.
They say he was not from the Warwickshire area and believe he died inside the burning car.
Officers are already liaising with the man's family.
A post mortem examination conducted, on Thursday (January 26), failed to establish the cause of death due to extensive damage to the body and further analysis is taking place.
A police spokesperson confirmed though the death is still being treated as unexplained, it is not being treated as suspicious.
Det Insp Liam Barry, from the investigation team appealed for help from the public.
He said: "We still need to establish what time the Peugeot 306 drove on to the field beside Brearley Road on Wednesday morning.
"We are beginning to build up a picture of the movements of the person who we believe died in the car, but there are still some unknowns leading up to when the car was reported to be on fire in the field.
"We are still appealing for anyone who saw the red Peugeot 306 in Aston Cantlow early on Wednesday 25 January, or anyone who heard anything that could have been the car being driven on to the field."
Police were alerted to the man’s death by firefighters who were called to attend the car fire at shortly after 7am on Wednesday.
