Town retain top ten spot

Coleshill Town 0 Stratford Town 3

IN-FORM Stratford chalked up a third successive Baker Joiner Midland Alliance victory at struggling Coleshill on Saturday which cemented their place in the top ten.

Impressive midfielder Chris Murphy led the way with a goal in each half, taking his tally to five in the last three games, to which James Travis added.

The visitors were quickly into their stride and two goals inside the opening 11 minutes virtually wrapped up the points.

Town signalled their attentions with an early shot from Mark Faulds producing a smart save from former Stratford keeper Chris Jay.

But Jay was helpless to prevent Stratford from taking a seventh minute lead when Michael Hayden released Mykel Beckley who neatly set up Murphy whose low 12-yard drive flew into the net.

The lead was doubled within four minutes when Travis rose well to head home a well flighted cross from Cameron Jones.

It took Coleshill almost 25 minutes to conjure up a worthwhile effort from Allando Davis who fired wide after good work by Chris Laite.

Former Stratford front-runner Danny Carter then latched onto a fine pass from Davis but shot weakly straight at keeper Richard Morris.

Stratford continued to dominate proceedings with Jay mnaking a fine save top deny Travis, while Beckley was only inches wide with a well struck 20-yard free kick.

But the visitors eventually added a third goal five minutes before the break when a cross from Travis was cleared only as far as Murphy who thumped a powerful volley into the top corner for a top quality goal.

Town maintained their domination in the second half with Travis and Andy Gregory both going close.

Coleshill kept plugging away and Morris made a good save to thwart Jack Jeyes, while Laite had a goalbound effort blocked.

But Town finished on top with Jamie Molyneux and Stuart Herlihy both going close in the dying minutes.

Satisfied manager Morton Titterton said:”We were comfortable winners and it was a confident team performance. 

“The frustrating aspect is our position in the table and all we can do now is make sure that we finish the season as positively as we can.”

Stratford entertain Dunkirk this Saturday (3pm) before playing host to Boldmere St Michaels at the DCS Stadium on Thursday (7.45pm).
