Jubilee fever set to grip district

FLAGS are set to be waved across the district as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is celebrated.

Patriotic parties and events are being held in towns and villages across the district at the weekend and on Jubilee day itself on Monday.

In Stratford the Recreation Ground will host a picnic in the park from 12.30pm to 3.30pm with the City of Birmingham Brass Band belting out classic anthems.

The Mayor of Stratford, Keith Lloyd will then light the Jubilee Beacon at 10.15pm at Monument Field, at the Welcombe Hills.

The Fringe Festival also coincides with the Diamond Jubilee with an array of events taking place from June 2 to June 10.

While attractions like the Falstaff Experience and MAD Museum are joining in the celebrations with special events.

Shipston will host a Diamond Jubilee fun day on Monday starting with a fun run in the town and activities at the Sheldon Bosley Hub.

The afternoon will feature everything from belly dancing to a bike daredevil display with market stalls, children's games and more.

At 9pm a torchlit procession will leave the hub for the lighting of the beacon at 10.15 pm.

Wellesbourne will host celebrations on Saturday with cream teas at 2.30pm at St Peters Church and a Songs of Praise event at 3.30pm.

And throughout the afternoon Wellesbourne in Bloom will hold activities in the church - including craft activities, mask making and guided bug hunts.

Then on Monday in the village there will be a barbecue with a licensed bar in the grounds of St Peter’s Church starting at 7.30pm.

Then at 10.20pm the beacon will be lit on the top of the church tower.

In Bidford the Jubilee Beacon will be lit on the Big Meadow at 10.15pm on Monday, followed by a firework display where refreshments will be available.

While in Henley events will be taking place across the Jubilee weekend - beginning with celebrations in Market Cross at 1pm where the crowning of the Jubilee Queen will take place.

The Jubilee Garden will host a picnic from 12.30pm with a host of activities including jazz bands and games taking place through the day.

And the town will also have a torchlit procession from 9pm on Monday up to the Mount where the Beacon will be lit.

Meanwhile Tiddington will host a Jubilee pop-up market from 10.30am to 3pm with more than 20 stall holders.
