CHICKEN specialists are passing on their eggs-pertise to students at Warwickshire College.
Ettington-based Warwickshire Chicken Coop is helping animal care students set up their own poultry enterprise.
The company, which launched earlier this year, supplied the students at Moreton Morrell with 13 hens and one cockerel as part of the project.
Their work will include running a chicken breeding pen, where the students will hatch eggs into chicks and sell them, once vaccinated, onto Warwickshire Chicken Coop to retail to the public.
Warwickshire Chicken Coop owner Jenna Jack said: “The world of chicken keeping has grown enormously over the past year; we have already sold over 1,000 chickens since opening in March.
“It is so pleasing to see the younger generation getting involved in the poultry industry and realising how enterprising chickens can really be.”
Brian Cook, college animal welfare manager, added: “This has been a fantastic project for the students to follow through. They each chose the chicken they wanted, having done research on the breeds beforehand in class. This will form an important part of their enterprise project and it is excellent to see the students having ownership over something.”
