THE LABOUR party will have a seat on Stratford District Council for the first time in eight years after Jeff Kenner won the Shipston by-election.
Following the resignation of Conservative Jonathan Gullis in October, Mr Kenner secured the most votes against his rivals, Conservative candidate Marion Lowe and Lib Dem Laura Nelson.
And after being endorsed by departing Shipston councillor Mr Gullis, Mr Kenner won 613 votes with Ms Nelson and Mrs Lowe on 575 and 431 votes respectively.
Turnout was down from 42.7 per cent in the May election which saw Richard Cheney elected to just 39.5 per cent yesterday (Thursday).
