LEADERS Stratford Town surrendered their unbeaten Baker Joiner Midland Alliance away record after slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Coventry Sphinx on Boxing Day.
Midfielder Joe Halsall had already squandered a couple of gilt-edged opportunities before Sphinx opened the scoring midway through the first half with a simple far post header from Kiam Gladins.
Town hit back strongly but must have sensed it was going to be tjheir day as both Harry Donaghy and Tyrone Fagan hit the post with headers.
The visitors eventually got back on level terms 20 minutes from time thanks to a neat finish from Fagan.
Town continued to press but they were caught on the break and their title hopes were dented as Matty Bannister popped up with a last minute winner for Sphinx.
Town remain 11 points clear at the top despite the setback and they visit second placed Stourport Swifts, who have two games in hand, this Saturday (3pm).
Town follow up by entertaining lowly Studley on Wednesday (7.45pm).
