Boldmere St Michaels 3 Stratford Town 5
RUNAWAY leaders Town stretched their advantage at the top of the Baker Joiner Midland Alliance table to 16 points following a handsome victory at eighth placed Boldmere on Saturday.
Both sides took time to settle in the tricky conditions but Town went ahead with the first menaingful move of the match after 14 minutes when recent recruit Lei Brown neatly set up Aaron Forde who fired home a powerful shot from the edge of the area which left keeper Lewis Fenney rooted to the spot.
The table-toppers wasted no time in doubling their advantage and five minutes later Mark Faulds climbed well to head home a fine cross from Ashley Edwards.
Boldmere hit back in the 27th minute through substitute Nathan Demonte who latched onto a poor clearance from Ricky Baker and beat keeper Chris Jay with a 25-yard shot.
Baker atoned for his error by restoring Town’s two goal cushion five minutes before the break by lashing home a loose ball after Tony Robinson’s cross resulted in a goalmouth scramble during which a succession of shots were blocked.
Town almost went further ahead five minutes after the break when Faulds found Robinson whose well struck shot was superbly saved by Fenney at full stretch.
But the visitors did not have to wait long before extending their advantage in the 55th minute. Robinson, who was fouled in the area by Levi Bailey, picked himself and confidently converted the resulting penalty.
Town went nap midway through the second half as Edwards delivered an inviting free kick into the area which Brown powerfully headed home.
The visitors, not surprisingly, relaxed their grip and Boldmere took full advantage to reduce the deficit in the 76th minute thanks to Mark Rose who was on hand to head home Mike Woolman’s cross from close range.
Woolman had an effort well saved by Jay before Boldmere struck again eight minutes from time through Andy Malcolm who punished a poor clearance from Jay with a precise long range lob.
It set up a nervous finish but Town held firm and maintained their relentless march towards the championship.
