FESTIVE students and staff at Stratford School mixed things up at their Christmas Concert this year.

The audience was treated to innovative interpretations of Christmas classics including an acapella version of Let it Snow by Sophie Dobedoe and a punk rock version of Jingle Bells by the Ukulele group.

Even the staff performed some of their own songs with the harmony of Yvette Browne and Nigel Sewell lifting everyone’s spirits with Watching Feathers Fall from Angels written by Mr Sewell himself.

One of the highlights of the evening were the four winsome Year 11 ballerinas who danced on point to Walking in the Air, while Frankie Appleyard, Laura Bird, Chloe Hadded and Lydia Hadded were a resounding hit, before the evening was rounded off by Reiss Hemming, Keiran Marklew and Callum Marshall with their reworking of Guns 'n' Roses classic Paradise City, which they re-titled Christmas City.

The evening was compared by Angus Gavan McHarg and Dan Paton, both year 11 students, who kept the audience amused and informed, together with a number of terrible jokes in true 'Christmas Cracker' style.

Deputy Head Karen Berwick said: “It was a wonderful evening that really got us all in the Christmas Spirit. The students had all worked so hard and obviously really enjoyed the evening themselves and for me that is what Christmas is all about.”
