SHIPSTON High School has been named as one of the top 100 schools in the country.
The school has just received a personal letter from the Minister of State for Schools, David Laws MP, congratulating it on the excellent GCSE performance of its students which saw it placed among top achievers in the 2012 Secondary School Performance Tables.
The tables focus on performance of students in five GCSEs including English and maths as well as the students’ three best other GCSEs.
The results show the school was among the 100 best improved schools in terms of the progress students made between when they started at the school to when they took their GCSEs five years later.
Shipston, despite being the smallest secondary school in the county with just 430 pupils, was the only school in Warwickshire and Gloucestershire to achieve the accolade of being in the top 100.
In his letter, Mr Laws predicted the school could soon be one of the highest performing schools in the country.
He also congratulated staff, governors and students for their hard work in continuing the drive towards high standards of educational achievement.
Delighted Headteacher Jonathan Baker said: "We were thrilled to receive the letter which came as a complete surprise. We were even more delighted to hear how well our students had done compared to every other school in the country.
"This is the truest measure of how well schools are doing because these tables show the genuine progress made by students from when they first arrived at the school.
"These tables show that a student at Shipston High School will make more progress than at any other school whether in Warwickshire, Gloucestershire or the whole country that is not in the top 100. By anyone’s standards this is fantastic achievement."
