A PLANNING debate over hugely controversial proposals to site a wind farm in South Warwickshire is to broadcast live on the internet.

Broadview Energy want to build four turbines - up to a height of 125 metres - between the villages Bishops Itchington, Gaydon and Knightcote - next to the M40.

There has been fierce opposition from local residents to the proposals, and members of Stratford District Council Planning Committee East have been recommended by officers to refuse the application on the grounds the turbines would be an eyesore, a threat to aircraft safety, and it is an area of archaeological importance.

The meeting is at Kineton High School on Tuesday (February 12), starting at 6pm.

Coun Danny Kendall, chairman of the meeting, said: “Due to the high public interest on this particular committee agenda the district council acknowledges this interest and learning from its past experience we are working to make use of today’s technology and making the meeting totally inclusive by showing it on the web.

“This will enable as many people as possible to view the proceedings live or at a time that suits them, from their workplace, home or any other place with access to the Internet.

“Webcasts are an excellent way to give the wider community an insight into local democracy. It will provide everyone with an opportunity to view local decision making affecting their community.”

The broadcast of the meeting can be viewed at www.stratford.gov.uk/webcast during and after the meeting.

Those who do not have access to the internet at home can watch the webcast at their local library, but are advised to check availability first. The recordings will also be held on the council website for viewers who cannot log in for the live coverage.

It is not the first time the council has broadcast a meeting on the website. The first was back in 2008 for a debate about the proposed Eco-Town at Long Marston.

The capacity of the hall at Kineton High School is 250, and attendance will be on a first come first serve basis.
