ENVIRONMENTALLY-friendly households have helped make Stratford District Council one of the top recycling councils in the UK.
Together with Biffa Waste Services and keen green residents, Stratford district currently recycles more than 60 per cent of its waste and has one of the highest customer satisfaction rates in the country.
And with a view to continuing improvements, including residents being able to recycle materials such as textiles, batteries and small electronic goods, the council has provisionally agreed for Biffa to continue providing the council’s waste and recycling collection service until 2022.
The updated scheme, which aims to be rolled out to residents from April this year, will result in budget savings of around £400,000 each year for the next nine years and will improve the service provided to people throughout the district.
Coun Lynda Organ, technical services spokeswoman, said: “This is a win-win situation and it's a great opportunity to enhance what are already highly regarded front-line council services.
“The cabinet has considered a number of options including sharing a service with another local authority but were convinced that the Biffa proposal offered the best value for residents.
“We look forward to working with them to continue delivering a high standard refuse and recycling collection service and street cleaning service to our residents.”
