Tividale 1 Stratford Town 4
RUNAWAY leaders Town remain 13 points clear at the top of the Baker Joiner Midland Alliance table after coming from behind to record a convincing victory at Tividale on Tuesday night.
Town, playing their first game for a month due to the weather, got off to the worst possible start by falling behind in the sixth minute when Kyle Brady was on hand to convert the rebound after keeper Chris Jay had blocked a shot from Matt Jukes.
Town recovered from the setback and Lei Brown was only just off target with a header from Aaron Forde’s corner but in response Jay was forced to produce fine saves to deny former Stratford striker Avun Jephcott and Jukes.
The visitors almost got back on level terms through Tyrone Fagan who unleashed a powerful shot which was smartly saved by Luke Stevens.
The home keeper was then swiftly off his line to thwart Fagan who was cleverly released by Tony Robinson.
Tividale finished the first half strongly but Jay made two impressive saves in quick succession to deny both Jephcott and Brady.
The home side remained on top in the early stages of the second half with Jon Aldridge and Brady both going close before Richard Taylor hit the outside of the post with a well struck effort.
Town weathered the storm and equalised on the hour when substitute Jamie Bailey released Ricky Baker whose low cross was turned into his own net by Luke Paskin.
Bailey fired inches wide shortly after and then had an effort blocked into the path of Brown who hammered home to put the visitors ahead.
Town strengthened their grip 15 minutes from time when the home defence failed to deal with Brown’s cross and Bailey popped up to fire home from ten yards.
The table-toppers completed the scoring in the last minute when Robinson found substitute Jamie Molyneux who calmly beat the advancing Stevens.
Town continue their title challenge by visiting rock-bottom Ellesmere Rangers this Saturday.
