A MAJOR drive to attract more tourists to 'romantic' Stratford is underway.
Shakespeare’s England, the new tourism body for Stratford and Warwick district, is working with the national tourist board VisitEngland, on a national marketing campaign designed to boost domestic tourism in 2013 by highlighting the town as a romantic heritage destination.
The VisitEngland campaign is in part funded by the Government and also focuses on six other destinations around England.
The local campaign, supported by Stratford District Council, is focusing on the historic setting of the town. Visitors will be encouraged to experience the boutique accommodation, quality restaurants, indulgent activities and soak up the unique atmosphere Stratford offers as a romantic getaway.
The promotion incorporates tv, radio, newspapers and websites, together with social media sites, including Facebook competitions, and a dedicated section on visitengland.com: www.visitengland.com/moreromantic.
David Collins, Chair of Shakespeare’s England and Royal Shakespeare Company Head of Marketing said: “Stratford-upon-Avon is one of England’s most beautiful towns and, along with gorgeous countryside, historic houses, castles and a fabulous cultural offer, has more than enough to tempt even the hardest heart on a romantic break.
"This exciting campaign shows how the private sector can work together with the public sector and VisitEngland to promote the area to visitors.
"It’s one of the key reasons we are forming a new tourism organisation, so that we can take advantage of opportunities such as these. We hope to be announcing more campaigns and partnerships like this in the coming months as we continue to grow.”
Coun Maurice Howse, Stratford District Council enterprise spokesman, said the council was pleased to be working with VisitEngland and Shakespeare’s England and was looking forward to welcoming more visitors.
