POLICE are warning parents to be wary of weapons being sold as toys after seizing two illegal taser style devices in south Warwickshire.
Both had been bought as toys and were seized from homes in the Wellesbourne area.
Sgt Richard Thomas of Stratford Police said: "These are classed as prohibited weapons and it is a criminal offence to either sell, buy or possess one.
"They are not toys - they are designed to stun a person with a high voltage shock, and there is clearly a safety issue here for the person operating it and anyone it might be used on."
Police are working with Warwickshire Trading Standards to discover where the taser style weapons are being sold, and want to hear from anyone who has information which would help their investigation.
Call Sgt Richard Thomas at Stratford Police Station on 01789 444503, email Rich.firstname.lastname@example.org, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
* Warwickshire Trading Standards are also warning of unsafe toys being sold on Warwickshire markets.
Officers have found new toys being sold without any packaging, age restriction warnings, or instructions and many without CE marks - which indicate the toy has been safety tested and can be legally sold.
