AVON Valley Community First Responders are ready for action.

The scheme - which trains volunteers to provide potentially life-saving treatment to people in need - was officially launched in Stratford's Town Square on Saturday (January 16).

The volunteers, who work in partnership with West Midlands Ambulance Service, will serve Stratford and surrounding villages.

Food writer and TV presenter Sally Bee helped launch the scheme, at which there were also demonstrations, including on the use of a defibrillator.

Anita Applebee from Stratford Town Trust, which donated £6,500 to buy essential equipment, thanked Shakespeare Lions and VASA (Voluntary ActionStratford upon Avon) for their hard work in setting up the scheme.

Scheme Chairman John Filgate thanked everyone for attending - which also included Stratford Mayor Keith Lloyd, Stratford District Council Chairman Neville Beamer and Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Ball - and their support to-date, particularly Rob Cobley from Tiddington Community Centre for their generous donations and on-going support.
