Time to brighten up your living room

The living room is a very important room in any house and will often be the heart of the home. It’s the place where the family gathers to watch TV at the weekends, where people go to chill out and read a book, and where most of the entertaining is done when guests are over. With all this in mind, it’s important to make sure the room is bright, airy, welcoming and, most of all, relaxing to be in.

If it’s been a while since you redecorated your living room then why not think about giving it a contemporary makeover? You don’t have to paint the whole room brilliant white and get rid of patterns altogether, but do consider updating any heavily patterned dark curtains or scatter cushions with something a little more modern.

Window treatments

Even when they’re open, heavy curtains in dark colours can create quite a foreboding atmosphere in the room, particularly in the summertime when you want to be able to control the light in your home. So, instead of choosing curtains this time, why not consider blinds instead?  By opting for something like vertical blinds from Blinds Supermarket you can introduce fresh new colours into the room as well as lots of light. Vertical blinds are really easy to keep clean and are ideal for long windows or patio doors that lead out into the garden. You can also use them to divide up a very large room or separate a dining area from the rest of the room without having to build a wall or other partition.

Colour scheme

Once the curtains have been replaced, take a look at the colour of the walls and consider going a shade lighter. If you have old dated wallpaper then it might be time to strip it down and start again. If you’re a fan of rich bold colours but you’re not sure about painting the whole room, then just choose one wall to make a ‘statement and paint the others in white or a neutral shade. This can look fantastic if you have a big piece of artwork or special photographs that you would like to make a feature of. The eye will automatically be drawn to the coloured wall as well as your painting or photos.

With a few simple changes, you’ll be amazed how much brighter and more inviting your living room will look. And better still, these changes are pretty inexpensive and quick to make as well. You could have your new, improved living room in a single weekend.
