Clothes for your New Year’s Resolutions

Many of us make resolutions: keeping fit, travelling the world, walking more and driving less are all things that crop up on people’s lists. They’re all great resolutions...but have you all got the right gear to help you stick to them?

Having a healthier lifestyle is probably the most frequently made resolution but if your wardrobe is full of chinos and knitwear you might have to invest in some new clothes before you can get started. Many items of sportswear can be used for different sports - even if you commit to being healthier, youú don’t have to commit to anything else! Jogging pants and sweatshirts are perfect for the gym and going out running and also for putting on over your rugby kit before and after matches.  Choose good quality ones - not necessarily the most expensive - and they’ll keep their shape and smart appearance. Many jogging pants and polo shirts combine soft breathable cotton with hard wearing, easy-care polyester. Polyester wicks moisture away from the skin so anything with polyester is great ideal for active people.

If 2013 is the year you’re finally going to get to Machu Picchu or the Great Wall of China or another dream holiday destination, you’ll have to think carefully about what to wear and what to pack. It is essential to wear comfortable clothing to travel in - in the airplane you won’t want to be restricted any more than you have to be. Jogging or cargo pants with elasticated waists offer the most comfort while layers of tops are ideal if you’re arriving in somewhere hotter than where you left.  In your suitcase you’ll want clothes that pack easily and don’t crush - include a base layer top to keep you warm  without taking up lots of room, and some crease-resistant travel trousers that’ll look as good in Australia as they did in the UK!

A lot more of us are becoming conscious of the impact of our cars, both environmentally and economically, and are trying to use them less and walk more. This is a fantastic and praiseworthy resolution but it does mean we have to be prepared for the outdoors. Casual walking boots do a great job, being hard wearing and supportive, but their relaxed lace up appearance means they also look good when you arrive. Invest in a waterproof coat too and don’t forget your gloves!

Whatever resolutions you made for 2013, kitting yourself out carefully, gives you a good chance of succeeding.
