A CLUB in the town centre will be allowed to host nights for under 18s after the council went against police advice.
Police registered serious concerns with the district council about the Bureau bar and nightclub's application to run a number of specialist nights for youngsters.
But the Licquor Licensing and Gambling Panel granted a license allowing the Arden Street premises to run up to ten such nights as well as allowing it to open an hour earlier, at 10am, seven days a week.
Objecting to the application, Warwickshire Police said the venue was among the worst premises in the town for violent incidents and highlighted an incident last September in which police had to use CS gas to control a brawl which they said started in the club.
They said they were concerned even though the nights would be exclusively for youngsters they may come into contact with drunken adults leaving nearby pubs and bars.
But owner Matt Beresford said he was 'adamant' he could deal with the concerns, hosting the nights when other bars did not hold big events.
A spokesperson for the council said the license had been granted subject to a number of conditions still being drawn up with police.
And spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: "During the meeting there was discussion over a number of considerations which were agreed.
"Our main concern was for the welfare of the children, particularly when they are leaving the venue, including issues such as road safety and we are satisfied that all these matters have been addressed."
