Company of Players pay folk homage to Bard at RSC

Stratford Editorial 1st Mar, 2017 Updated: 1st Mar, 2017   0

FOLK ensemble Company of Players perform at the RSC’s Studio Theatre at The Other Place on April 8.

They were formed in 2016, the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, by Said The Maiden’s Jess Distill, who set out to create a folk ‘supergroup’ reflecting her love of the Bard.

Over the course of a week last April, the ten piece group wrote, rehearsed and recorded their first album of brand new music, based on Shakespeare’s life and work, which they will perform live at the RSC in two 45 minute sets.

Company of Players features some of Jess’ peers, and the very best emerging musicians on the UK folk and acoustic music scene, including Minnie Birch, Chris Cleverley, Lukas Drinkwater, Hannah Elizabeth, Sam Kelly, Daria Kulesh, Kim Lowings, Kelly Oliver and Kathy Pilkinton.

Visit www.rsc.org.uk/companyofplayers for tickets priced £12. The gig starts at 7.30pm.
