Luna Kiss are hitting the high notes this July

ALTERNATIVE rock band Luna Kiss are making sure July is a month to remember.

The four-piece band – who all studied music at Warwickshire College in Leamington – have a busy few weeks ahead, releasing their second music video and EP, performing at a music festival in Germany and playing a show at the Zephyr Lounge in Leamington on Saturday (July 11) from 7pm.

They have spent the last year working on their EP ‘Gravity’ at Coten End Studios in Warwick and filming a video for their upcoming single of the same name.

Their last EP received favourable reviews, with Classic Rock’s Prog Magazine describing it as Pink Floyd meets Florence and the Machine.

Lead singer and guitarist Wil Russell, who lives in Lillington, said: “We started recording the EP last year and did loads of experimenting before creating what we have now.

“Doing the second EP was a huge learning curve but also a lot of fun. We’ve included other influences such as percussion, cello and female vocals to create something truly individual that sounds great.”

The band – Wil, Chris Butler, James Pedley, and Ross Morris – filmed the video for single ‘Gravity’ at the Assembly Rooms in Leamington.

It features an aerial dancer twirling from the venue’s ceiling on a piece of ribbon while the band play beneath her.

After Saturday’s Leamington gig the band will be heading to Germany – where they toured earlier this year – to play at ‘Night of the Progs’, one of the biggest alternative rock festivals in the world.

Wil told the Observer: “It’s great to be going back to Germany. We were really well received there earlier this year but it will be nice to play for some of our local fans before we go.

“It’s really great to be asked to play the festival. It has a waiting list of some 300 bands so to be asked is a real honour.

“It’s taken a lot of time and effort to release our EP and video but we are really happy with the outcome and can’t wait to hear what people think.”

Tickets cost £7 and are available from www.seetickets.com or on the door.
