WARWICK Words is hosting a programme of Xtra events in Warwick in the coming months.

First up on Friday February 27 is best-selling biographer Anne de Courcy discussing her latest book Margot at War which reveals the extraordinary love triangle behind the scenes at 10 Downing Street during the First World War.

Also in February SJ Watson – author of the recently filmed and best-selling book, Before I go to Sleep – will be talking about his new novel Second Life, a psychological thriller exploring identity, lies and secrets.

In March renowned potter Emma Bridgewater will be bringing along her latest book Toast and Marmalade – Stories from the Kitchen Dresser which tells the personal stories behind her popular designs.




This is followed in April by Martin Hughes-Games, presenter of BBC’s Springwatch and Autumnwatch talking about A Wild Life – his time spent filming wildlife documentaries around the world.

Later in May military historians Jon Cooksey and Graham McKechnie will be presenting their latest book Kelly’s War: The Great War Diary of Frederick Kelly, the extraordinary story of musician, composer and Olympic rower Frederick Kelly who was killed in action during the Great War.


Also in May, James Runcie – whose Grantchester Mysteries are now a major TV series – will be discussing his latest book Sidney Chambers and the Forgiveness of Sins.

Best selling historian Dan Jones will be coming to Warwick Castle in June to tell the explosive story of the War of the Roses in his best-selling book The Hollow Crown which describes how the Plantagents tore themselves apart to be finally replaced by the Tudors.

This series of Xtra events ends in June with journalist and former editor of Wisden Matthew Engel discussing his travels around the country in search of the essence of each county for Engel’s England.

Warwick Words Writers Group will be also hosting another of their popular Open Mic evenings in May.

The main Warwick Words Festival take place from October 1 to 4.
