A DETERMINED youngster from Stratford has committed herself to a 30 mile walk in memory of the late Captain Tom despite not enjoying walking.

Isla Preston has pledged to achieving the milestone over two weeks to pay tribute to her ‘hero’.

The six-year-old said: “I really enjoyed watching Captain Tom finish his sponsored walk. I was very sad when he died but we will always remember him and I think he will always be a hero. I am doing this sponsored walk to remember Captain Tom and make some money for his charity.

“I don’t really like walking but it is for Captain Tom, so I will because he managed to walk a long way and he was nearly 100.”

Isla has smashed her initial target of £25 by some £400 and is continuing with a new goal of £500.

Mum Katie said: “Isla really enjoyed watching Captain Tom complete his walk during the first lockdown and loved that it brought some happiness and positivity into the situation we were all in.

“We wanted to do something positive in this lockdown and to help other people so Isla decided to be like Captain Tom and raise money by doing a long walk.”
