HI-TECH students at Stratford Stratford Girls’ Grammar School proved themselves top of the class.

As we recently reported a four-strong Team Checkmate from the school were in the running for an award at the national Apps for Good finals in London for developing an app.

And the girls – Katie Griffiths, Josie Baldwin, Emily Bowes and Alex Hill – were celebrating after winning the Information category for their app ‘I’m Okay’ which is designed to provide support and advice to young lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

Team member Emily Bowes said: “The competition was a wonderful experience and winning was just amazing. I’m very happy with the result.”

The victory followed the success of last year’s school entry which also won. The Pitch Pals app, designed to help young people tune their musical instruments, was developed and launched into the app market in January.

And the school had double reason to celebrate this year as Simon Reid, Head of Computing and E-learning, was named Apps for Good Teacher of the Year.

Apps for Good is an education movement aiming to transform the way digital technology is taught in schools – encouraging a new generation to create, launch and market new products that could go on to change the world.
