AN ART studio has been dedicated to the memory of a much-loved family man.
The Huw Grantham Studio at The Courtyard Gallery at Stratford Garden Centre aims to provide a space for up-and-coming artists to develop their work. Huw found sanctuary in the studio while living with a brain tumour.
He was diagnosed in July 2014, aged 37, and passed away suddenly in September 2020, leaving a wife and two children.
Huw’s wife Katie said: “Some of his work will be displayed in the gallery for Warwickshire Open Studios.
“The gallery will also soon be selling prints of his beautiful work in aid of The Shakespeare Hospice. The hospice provided support to him and our family while he was undergoing treatment.
“The Children’s and Family Support Service team now work with our children, Poppy and Finn, following the loss of their dad.”
His family were invited to the gallery, for the official opening of the refurbished studio, with Poppy and Finn cutting the ribbon.
The gallery, run by The Courtyard Artists Warwickshire, has also launched the Huw Grantham Studio Artist Award.
This will offer a studio space for a recent graduate or an artist wishing to re-join the creative art world.
Katie added: “Huw was a wonderful man and very private, but I know he would have been very touched by all that The Courtyard Gallery have done for him and our family, both before and after his tragic death.”
A member of the Courtyard Artists Team said: “We will never forget Huw our dear artist friend. We intend to celebrate his life and creative work each day in our Courtyard Gallery Studio.”
