Bad weather causing severe delays around Warwickshire

Stratford Editorial 9th Mar, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

RAIN has caused long delays on roads around Warwickshire.

And now flooding on rail lines are causing disruptions.

Trains between Birmingham Moor Street and Stratford via Wood End are being disrupted. This is expected to continue until 4pm.

Buses have been requested to run between Stratford and Stourbridge Junction.

The A46 between the Birmingham Road, Budbrooke (A425) and M40 junction 15 by Sherbourne is currently closed because of an accident.

The Longbridge Island has now reopened after being closed because of an accident and flooding.

The M40 southbound between Gaydon (junction 15) and Banubry (junction 11) is partially blocked and traffic is queuing for a mile because of an accident involving four vehicles.

And the M40 southbound between Henley and Longbridge is slow because of surface water.

Mud and standing water on the Loxely Road to Stratford has found a lot of traffic looking for alternative routes in and out of the town and the A439 near the Welcombe Hotel is hazardous because of flooding.

The Oakley Wood Crematorium road (B4087) and the Fosse Way from Leamington both have areas of flooding across them.

Roads near Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and the A3400 near Wooten Wawen are badly flooded with traffic queuing to get through.

There are also delays around Bidford.

The Environment Agency have issued flood warnings for the River Dene at Walton – which was recorded this morning at 1.8metres high and rising – and the River Stour at Shipston and Tredington which was at 2.8metres.

People are warned river levels are expected to peak at 2.2metres by 4pm.

Warwickshire Police have asked drivers not to attempt to drive through flood water as many vehicles are becoming stranded.

Charlecote Park have said they will be closed today too because of flooding in their grounds.

Schools are also being affected by the bad weather – currently Henley Primary School and Henley High School, Acorns Primary School, Loxely Primary School, Snitterfield Primary School, Temple Herdewyke Primary School, The Dassett Primary School and Wilmcote Primary School are closed today.
