Baguette barge could include alcohol on the menu

STRATFORD’S best-loved food and beverage boat may soon be serving up alcohol.

The baguette barge which serves up snacks from its home in the canal basin in Bancroft Gardens, has applied for a licence to sell alcohol and to play music until 10pm.

The canal boat is currently having a decked area built to allow its customers to sit and enjoy their refreshments.

Environmental officers and Guildhall ward councillor Jenny Fradgley have recommended the licence be restricted to 8pm to avoid ‘public nuisance’.

Coun Fradgley added: “I want to support the vibrant business of the Bancroft but it must be compatible with the interests of the residents there.”

The applicant Colin Pike has also proposed the use of his other barge ‘Jennifer May’ to be used as a bathroom for patrons, after concern over lack of facilities was raised.

The matter is set to be discussed further by the licensing panel.
