THE BBC One daytime drama Shakespeare & Hathaway – Private Investigators has proved a hit with viewers.

The series, filmed in and around Stratford and Warwick, sees Frank Hathaway (Mark Benton), a hardboiled private investigator, and his rookie sidekick Lu Shakespeare (Jo Joyner) form the unlikeliest of partnerships as they investigate the secrets of Warwickshire’s residents.

The first series of ten episodes were screened in February and March and averaged 2.11million viewers and was among the most searched for shows on iPlayer.

And the success has prompted BBC bosses to commission a second series which will begin filming in September.

Dan McGolpin, BBC controller of programming and daytime. said: “This new series has amused and delighted so many viewers with its inspired storytelling, intriguing characters and knowing comedy – all set in Shakespeare country.

“I’m very pleased to confirm that it will return to both BBC One and iPlayer early next year.”
