PARENTS who lost their twin baby girls at just one day old have commemorated their birthday by spreading a ‘movement of kindness’ – with the help of more than 1,000 other people.
Natalie and Sean Casey had Daisy and Georgie at 25 weeks last December at Warwick Hospital – three months before they were actually due. Despite battling to survive the twins passed away due to complications from extreme prematurity.
The Kenilworth couple – who are also parents to eight-year-old Jack and Sean’s 15- year-old son Nathan – decided to remember the twins’ birthday by calling on family and friends to carry out kind acts.
But all of their expectations were surpassed after more than 1,300 people from across the country joined in after spotting the hashtags #movementofkindness and #fordaisyandgeorgie on social media.
Acts of kindness from donating toys and clothes, cooking dinner for a neighbour, giving an elderly person a lift and even saying nice things were carried out. People also donated nearly £200 to the Lily Mae Foundation, a charity which helps parents – including Natalie and Sean – cope with loss.
Natalie’s employers, electrical company Rexel also joined in on the movement, by donating £2 to the charity each time a kind act was carried out – which totalled more than £2,000.
Natalie – who works as a manager – said: “We wanted to be able to remember Daisy and Georgie and honour their short life in a way that’s happy and not sad.
“The movements of kindness have really been uplifting, overwhelming and brought joy to our house in a time we were struggling.
“We are so touched by the lovely things people have done in memory of our beautiful girls. It really did lift our spirits & make us smile.”
Earlier this year the couple took on a charity run in memory of the twins’ due date, which was expected to be in March. They raised an impressive £6,000 for the charity.
The community rallied behind the bereaved couple, raising more than a third towards their target in just two days.
