Stratford Editorial 2nd Dec, 2016   0

A YOUNG pilot is flying high after being named Coventry and Warwickshire Apprentice of the Year.

Alex Chance won the Administration, Accounting and Finance Category at an award ceremony held at Coventry Cathedral.

The aspiring pilot, who is an operations and customer service apprentice at Take Flight Aviation based at Wellesbourne Airfield, was one of 16 category finalists at the inaugural awards ceremony.

The former Stratford School gained an NVQ Level Three certificate in customer service at Warwickshire College while also earning his Private Pilot Licence (PPL).

The 20-year-old said: “Starting an apprenticeship has really helped to develop my career.

“It’s opened up my mind to all the other job opportunities in aviation that I hadn’t considered before.”

The high-flyer will soon be leaving the company after 18 months working and learning, to travel and work around Australia.

Mike Roberts, managing director of Take Flight, said: “We’re very proud of what Alex has achieved and delighted that he has managed to complete his PPL and Night Rating as part of his apprenticeship with us.

“He has become an integral part of the business respected by staff and customers alike and is a shining example of what an apprenticeship can and should be. We are really going to miss him.”
