Burglars raid eight properties in south Warwickshire on the same day

BURGLARS raided eight properties in south Warwickshire on the same day.

Police suspect the incidents – which all occurred on Wednesday May 10 – are linked and were carried out by at least two individuals.

Two incidents were reported on Newbold Road and one on Willow Drive in Wellesbourne, two on Kineton Road in Gaydon, one on Wasperton Lane in Barford, one in Abbey Lane in Southam and one near Heydons Terrace in Farnborough.

The burglars fled with cash, jewellery and a computer.

In most cases they were reported to have forced entry through the rear of the properties. Police are now urging homeowners to ensure their back doors, fences and gates are secure, and that there are no tools around the garden that burglars could use to break in.

Officers are appealing for information particularly surrounding a white Volkswagen Golf, which was reported by witnesses during two of the incidents.

They say they will be carrying out patrols in the areas to deter the burglars from striking again.

Sgt Simon Ryan said: “These offences occurred during the day so we’re confident people will have noticed someone acting suspiciously in the areas around where the offences took place.

“We’re following a number of promising lines of enquiry and any information, no matter how small, might be vital to the investigation.”

Anyone with information should call 101 or ring 0800 555 111 to speak to Crimestoppers anonymously.

Police have offered advice to help keep properties safe:

Lock windows and doors when you are not in the house, even if you are just going into the garden.

Hide all keys, including car keys, out of sight and away from letter boxes.

If you’re going on holiday ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property

Leave a light and radio on if you are going out at night to make it look as though someone is in.

Make sure rear access to your property is sturdy and secure.

Keep ladders and tools secure so they can’t be used to gain access.

Mark valuable property with your postcode and house number and register for free with www.immobilise.com.

Keep valuables out of sight of windows.

Keep valuable jewellery secure.
