IT’S ALL chain-ge for Stratford’s outgoing Mayor.

Councillor Tessa Bates officially handed over the chains of office to Coun Juliet Short during the Mayor-making ceremony at the Town Hall on Thursday (May 19).

Born and bred in Stratford, Coun Short last served as Mayor more than a decade ago and spent eight years as a district councillor from 2000 to 2008. She was also chairman of the district council in 2005/2006.

Currently principal of her dance company, Mezzoforte, Coun Short is an international adjudicator and examiner of dance for the United Kingdom Alliance and trains pupils for BTEC National Diplomas in Performing Arts Dance.

Speaking about her latest role, she said: “It is a great honour to be elected for a second term of office and I promise to represent the town and the council to the very best of my ability.

“As a council we have a tremendous sense of tradition and commitment to this very special town and this is something I am extremely proud of.

“Things have moved on since the turn of the century – we have a stronger connection and work in partnership with the district and county council and I’m sure this will continue to grow in the future.

“We have exciting times to look forward to with the Neighbourhood Plan hopefully being adopted and the ability to identify and use the Community Infrastructure Levy money on a number of projects, which can only enhance our communities.

“I hope together with my deputy, Coun Victoria Alcock, we will have a busy time promoting this fabulous town and supporting all those who have chosen our town as a place to live, learn, work or visit.”

In Alcester, Coun Chris Brannigan has recently been appointed Mayor while Coun Ronnie Murphy was unanimously elected as Shipston Mayor for the next 12 months.
