THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for good causes by a pop-up Christmas card shop in Stratford.
Funds totalling £13,300 will benefit 26 national and local charities thanks to the MCA Christmas Card shop located in the United Reformed Church (URC) for eight weeks ahead of Christmas.
Local charities Our Shakespeare Hospice and League of Friends of Stratford Hospital raised the most of all those involved.
Of the national charities, Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Cancer Research were the two highest selling.
Organiser Catherine Davies said: “My thanks go to all our customers from far and wide who regularly support MCA by buying our charity cards and sundries, the latter helping to pay for the cost of running the shop. Our religious section was again a great success with some regular customers coming quite a distance knowing that a wide range of religious cards was available.
“Finally my thanks go the elders of the URC for allowing MCA to use their premises and for so many members of the church who volunteer for us and others who give us so much encouragement.”
The shop is expected to operate again this year.
