GOLFERS swung into action for Stratford Hospital’s £1million appeal.

The Welcombe Hotel hosted a charity golf day on Tuesday (April 12) featuring a nearest to the pin competition and a host of other challenges as well as a two course sit down meal.

The Welcome Wizards were crowned champions on the day, which raised more than £7,500 for the appeal.

Fund-raising manager Ali Gray said: “We would like to thank all our sponsors, to those who donated prizes for the raffle, and Sharon Stephens, Martin Woodall and Tim Wightman for working so hard before and during the event.

“We received so many wonderful comments throughout the day and everyone left very happy.

“Congratulations to the winning team, the Welcombe Wizards and well done to everyone else who took part.”

Hospital chiefs are looking to create a new cancer and state-of-the-art eye treatment centre at the existing site on Arden Street by early next year.

The appeal total currently stands at around £725,000 and it is hoped the money will help fund everything from specialist chemotherapy chairs to iPads that do not come as standard in the new £22million hospital.

The next fund-raising event is a fun run and family day, which is set to be held at Stratford Racecourse from 10am on Sunday, May 8.
