Charity prepares to host Christmas dinner for the lonely

Stratford Editorial 9th Dec, 2018   0

A CHARITY which counts the Duke and Duchess of Sussex among its supporters is set to host Christmas lunch for those with nowhere to go.

It will be the third year organiser Tessa Hince has put on the event which serves a three-course lunch with all the trimmings for those aged 18 to 99 years-old.

Earlier this year Tessa and fellow founder Hayley Ash were recognised for their charity work hosting the lunch by being invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding at Windsor Castle.

But now the former Shipston High School pupils are back more inspired than ever and planning this year’s festivities for those who would otherwise face spending December 25 alone.

Tessa told the Observer: “We are now back to business and gearing up for Christmas. We want to raise awareness of loneliness and isolation at this time of year, and the fact that although it’s an incredibly exciting time of year, it can be the hardest time for some people. Nobody should have to spend Christmas Day on their own if they would rather spend it celebrating with others.

“We would like to invite anyone who might find themselves on their own, and would prefer to spend the day celebrating with others.

“We recognise social isolation can be harmful at any age, particularly at Christmas, and our aim is to bring the community together to help and support each other.”

Tessa is also calling for people to donate money, items and time to help support the running of the event, which will be held at Townsend Hall.

It will also include carols, entertainment and a visit from Father Christmas.

Tessa added: “Donations of raffle and tombola prizes would be fantastic, and also any Christmas decorations. We need volunteers to help in the run up to organise the event, and then also on the day.

“Perhaps you might like to bring the family down later in the afternoon to help with the ‘big clean up’ to work off your Christmas dinner. Any support is always greatly appreciated.”
