Choir set to perform at ArtsHouse frantic as closure looms

THE IMPENDING closure of Stratford ArtsHouse left a choir ‘frantically’ looking for a venue to hold its annual concert.

Members of Alcester Male Voice Choir were left devastated after discovering the venue was set to close just one week before their show on May 12.

Choir founder Judith Land says the show had been organised more than a year ago and the some 80 members were plunged into uncertainty when news about the Artshouse broke.

Stratford Town Trust, which owns the Rother Street building, announced the venue was no longer sustainable and was withdrawing grant funding.

But after hunting for somewhere alternative to put on the show, the choir found the Greig Hall in Alcester had space available on the same date.

Judith said: “We were devastated when we heard that the Artshouse was closing, just one week before our concert was due to take place.

“The venue booking had been made months ago with tickets, posters and booking forms all printed and more than half the tickets sold.

“Our annual concert is the highlight of the choir’s year and the only event we run for our own funds.

“After a frantic few days I am delighted the Grieg Hall have very kindly agreed to let us hold the concert there. I am very relieved and grateful to the Greig management team for agreeing to help us.”

Tickets already purchased to the event will still be valid for the new venue.

Tickets cost £15 each. Call 07752 563068 to book.
