Community effort gets an Alcester business back on its feet after car smash

KIND-HEARTED members of the community have rallied round to support the owner of an Alcester business who was left in distress last week after a car crashed through her shop front.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in order to raise cash to get The Sun Stop, owned by Larissa Chandler, back up and running after a car smashed thought the front of it early on Tuesday morning (July 12).

Much of the inside of the premises in High Street was reduced to rubble.

As a result, Courtney Millward was moved to set up a fundraising page on GoFundMe to help out her friend, who only opened her business in May. She aimed to spur on the rest of the community to get behind Ms Chandler and get The Sun Stop back up and running as quickly as possible.

Ms Millward said: “Larissa is a very new business owner who put her everything into opening this shop. She put her all into it.

“On her behalf I have set up this GoFundMe account to try and help get some funds together to open the shop as soon as possible. As a community, let’s get together and help her”.

And the local Alcester community have certainly been getting behind Ms Chandler. Not only has the GoFundMe page raised hundreds of pounds already in donations, but local builders RKC Contractors helped clear all the rubble and debris from inside the shop and put up temporary boarding.

While fellow business owner Emma Reynolds organised for a local artist to paint the boarding with a bright and colourful tropical palm tree mural, complete with aeroplane, encouraging people to “Please use side door”, while repair work to the main shop takes place.

Ms Chandler has managed to sort out her beauty room and lie down sun bed area so that these can be open to customers whilst the rest of the repair work takes place.

Ms Chandler wrote on Facebook: “Thank you Courtney Millward for setting this page up and to all the other lovely people in the community of Alcester that have come together to help myself and our lovely landlords. None of this has gone unnoticed and it’s all really appreciated from the bottom of our hearts.

“Alcester is truly an amazing community”.
