BOMB disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a Second World War German bomb unearthed in a South Warwickshire garden.

Work was being carried out in the garden of a house on Shrewley Common on Tuesday morning (December 8)

when the bomb was dug up shortly before noon. The shocked resident remained calm and immediately called police.

An area on Shrewley Common was cordoned off as a team from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) rushed to the scene from their base at Tewkesbury nearly 50 miles away.

After clearing the area, the device was safely detonated.
