Council holding free electric blanket testing

Stratford Editorial 30th Aug, 2017   0

ELECTRIC blanket users are being offered a peaceful night’s sleep.

Warwickshire Trading Standards is launching its annual electric blanket safety testing campaign offering the chance to have blankets tested for free.

In 2016, one in every three of the electric blankets tested failed and faulty electric blankets are a known cause of house fires.

The service is also offering to safety test kettles, irons, toasters and Christmas lights – also free of charge – at the same time.

Free tests – by an expert electrical examiner – will be carried out at Rugby Library on October 2, Leamington Town Hall on October 4, and Stratford Briars Croft on October 6.

The service is available to all Warwickshire residents aged 50 or over.

Book by emailing [email protected] or calling 01926 414080.

Warwickshire County Council safety spokesman Howard Roberts said: “Faulty electric blankets are a serious fire hazard. I would strongly urge Warwickshire residents to take advantage of this free offer and book an appointment now.”

Act on Energy – the charity that encourages energy conservation by providing free and impartial advice to householders and small businesses – will also be at the testing stations to provide free energy efficiency advice.
