Dedicated volunteer invited to Buckingham Palace to collect MBE

A DEDICATED volunteer had a date at Buckingham Palace to collect her MBE.

Save the Children volunteer Marilyn Payne was presented with the honour by HRH The Princess Royal for 33 years service to the charity.

Marilyn who is a volunteer leader for Warwickshire, supports all the branches in the county including those in Leamington, Warwick & Kenilworth.

Marilyn began volunteering with the charity in 1983 in Kent and continued when living in Aberdeen and in Sussex. She and her husband Michael moved to Tredington near Shipston in 2005.




Since moving to Warwickshire she has delivered nearly 150 talks and raised some £11,000 in the last two years.

Marilyn has also visited Save the Children programmes in India and led a team of volunteers on a visit to Liberia.


Ann Bailey, community coordinator for the Leamington, Warwick & Kenilworth branch,said: “Marilyn contacted our branch very soon after her move to Warwickshire in 2005, since when she has been a stalwart supporter of the branch and has devoted many hours to support our fund raising efforts. We are indebted to her and offer her our warmest congratulations on her award.”
