DOG-OWNERS are being urged to keep their pets on a tight lead after a young swan was killed.
The cygnet sustained two large wounds and could not be saved after it was taken to a sanctuary by Stratford Swan Rescue.
According to witnesses its owner was out of sight when the dog attacked at the Stratford Recreation Ground.
Rescue operator Cyril Bennis said the dog was not on a lead and out of control.
He added: “I am urging dog owners to take more care when other wild animals are around, and to make sure that the dog is on a lead.
“I am concerned at the increase in dog attacks in Stratford.”
