Eco cafe opens for business at Charlecote Park

AN ECO-FRIENDLY cafe is now serving at Charlecote Park.

The Wood Yard Cafe sits in the working yard of the 16th century National Trust cared for property, and has been carefully designed to fit in with the historic surroundings.

Project manager Tom Grosvenor said: “As Europe’s largest conservation charity, careful consideration has been given to every step of the project. We wanted to ensure it included high ‘green’ credentials, had minimal impact on the surrounding historic buildings and still delivered a space that benefited our visitors.

“The café is a prefabricated structure making it more environmentally-friendly. All the wood has been sourced from sustainable and renewable, certified sources.

“And the cladding will change colour with age to mirror surrounding historic timbers.”

The new cafe was needed as the Orangery Tea-Room was struggling to cope with increased visitors.

General manager Kellie Scott said: “The Wood Yard Café is a vital investment into the continued conservation work at Charlecote.

“All proceeds taken in the new café will go back into looking after this heritage asset.”
