Family disco for Stratford learning disability causes

DISCO-loving families are being urged to get into the groove for a good cause.

A family fun disco is being held at Shottery Memorial Hall on Saturday June 6 to raise funds for Heart of England Mencap and the Welcombe Hills School.

The event, running from 7pm to 9.30pm, has been organised by the Friends of Heart of England Mencap, which was formed last year.

Chaired by Stratford mum Karen Rousell, whose daughter Lottie was born with learning disabilities, the group is hoping the disco will raise money for the two causes, which support those with learning disabilities.

She said: “Our group is all about putting the fun back into fund-raising. We want families to come along for a really good time, raising money and awareness along the way to support two local causes doing such important work to improve the lives of those with learning disabilities.”

And the Friends are also appealing for anyone holding a sponsored event to consider doing it for Heart of England Mencap.

“We would also love to hear from anyone who can spare any amount of time to join the Friends,” Karen added.

“You don’t have to have hours to spare, you don’t have to be involved in every event, it could just be manning a bucket for us. What we’re after is a pool of people so we can pull on strengths and share the load.”

Tickets – priced at £5 with carers going free – are available in advance by emailing [email protected] or calling either 01789 298709 or 07817 641248.
