Faye's mockumentary is making waves

A RADIO mockumentary inspired by Kanye West has earned a Stratford student a national award.

Former Stratford Girls’ Grammar School student Faye Lawrence scooped the Kevin Greening Award at this year’s Student Radio Awards for her comedy radio series ‘Yeezy Taught Me’.

The programme features an over-dramatised version of Faye, who tells stories about her life which relate loosely to the American rapper’s music, as though it was written about her and for her.

Faye is in her final year studying English Literature and Theatre Studies at the University of Leeds and her show is aired on Leeds Student Radio.

She said: “I love writing and producing my radio shows. There was something disingenuous about a Shottery girl presenting a show about rap music and I am delighted to have won the award – the best bit about the ceremony was the hug from Greg James!”

The Kevin Greening Award is given in recognition of unique on-air creativity and only one show each year is presented with the award.
