First junior park run event hailed a success

Stratford Editorial 27th Jun, 2019   0

ENERGETIC youngsters were invited to take part in Stratford’s first junior park run.

The free event – supported by Stratford District Council – will take place on Sundays at the recreation ground.

It aims to encourage four to 14-year-olds to expend their energy in three laps around the football pitches – a total of 2km.

Children can run alone or invite parents or friends to run along with them. Volunteers ensure youngsters stay safe and no-one is left behind.

District council chairman Christopher Kettle dropped in to the event launch on Sunday.

He said: “I was delighted to attend the opening junior park run and to see so many young athletes taking part. Some were very professional and others did really well.

“It is great that Stratford is now playing host to a junior parkrun, as health and wellbeing is an important issue for all residents of the district.

“Becoming involved with a local parkrun is a great way for people to enjoy safe, free and enjoyable exercise in a friendly community-based atmosphere.

“I hope young people make the most of this new weekly opportunity in such a beautiful location.”
