FLOODING is affecting properties in Wellesbourne.

Those in Church Walk, Bridge Street, Chapel Street and Willow Drive are understood to have been struck by flooding from the River Dene.

A warning to residents living near the River Stour is also in force.

More heavy rain could affect properties in Halford, Shipston, Tredington, Newbold on Stour, Preston on Stour, Atherton on Stour and Clifford Chambers later today.

Experts are closely monitoring the situation and response staff are checking defences and clearing weed from drains.

Significant flooding has also been reported in areas including Barford, Loxley, Great Alne and Alcester.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue tweeted the following warning: ” If you do come across flood water, please do not drive through it. You will get stuck and you could endanger not only your life, but the lives of those who come to rescue you.”

Police have advised drivers to avoid the B4455 and A429 and the A3400.

It is understood some 20 schools across Warwickshire have been closed.

Further rain is expected tomorrow.
