Food fest serves up a cultural feast

DISHES from around the world were showcased during a food festival at Stratford College.

The event was held in honour of English language students who completed the first term of the academic year.

Learners from the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course served up classic dishes from their respective countries and invited staff to sample the culinary delights.

The course aims to help ESOL students engage in life in the community and help with employment opportunities.

Manon Richer from France prepared saucisson, a cured pork sausage similar to salami.

She began the course to help in her work as an au pair looking after a young child.

She said: “This was complicated at first because obviously we both had limited vocabulary, but I’ve learnt so much in just three months because I speak to the other ESOL students in English all the time.”
