Green-fingered volunteers lend a hand to forest garden project

GREEN-FINGERED volunteers are being asked to lend their support to a forest garden in Stratford.

A new five-acre garden is being created by organisation ‘Forest of Hearts’ on land off Gospel Oak Lane.

The site will feature woodland areas, plants, ponds, fruit trees and bee hives as well as a teaching area where local groups and schools can learn about gardening and the importance of bees to the environment.

Spokeswoman for Forest of Hearts Carole Longden said: “The garden is a real community project and we’ve had everyone from school children to young adults helping to set it up.

“We are now looking for regular volunteers who would be able to not only assist with setting up the garden, but also give up a few hours of their time each week to maintain the site once it is open.”

The garden is set to open later this year.
