Homeless charity on lookout for host families in Stratford

Stratford Editorial 2nd Jul, 2014 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

BIG-HEARTED residents are being urged to help young homeless in the district by offering them a roof over their heads.

Homeless charity Nightstop is working with Stratford District Council in a bid to reduce homelessness within the district and is looking for host families to support homeless young people aged between 16 and 25.

Hosts provide a spare room and a willingness to share their home with a young person, offering a caring and secure environment for young people to ensure they stay safe and off the streets.

Hosts can be families, couples or single people.

They can help in a variety of ways, including offering emergency accommodation on a night by night basis, providing supported lodgings, offering a placement normally between six to nine months, or flexible short term placements depending on the circumstances of the host.

The young people are screened before being put on the scheme and there is 24-hour support for the host and young person from Nightstop’s staff.

Host families will also need to be willing to undertake a criminal records check, along with other safeguarding checks.

Full training and support is provided, together expenses for those providing emergency accommodation, and a fee is paid to those offering supported lodging.
