Hospital staff overpaid thousands must cough up

Stratford Editorial 16th Apr, 2018   0

FORMER hospital staff will have to cough up £225,000 after being overpaid.

South Warwickshire Foundation Trust (SWFT) – which runs Warwick, Leamington, Stratford and Shipston hospitals – is currently owed thousands by some 430 employees who have left their positions.

Those who have been overpaid – which usually happens when paperwork is not filled in on time – must now pay back the money to the trust.

Concerns were flagged up about the amount needing to be paid back at a hospital committee meeting. An investigation is now underway.

A SWFT spokeswoman said: “Overpayments generally arise when an individual resigns and the appropriate payroll paperwork is not completed in time to meet the monthly payroll deadline.

“The trust is working with managers to address this.

“The trust is currently owed £225,000 which is 0.1 per cent of its total pay costs.”
